You may or may not know that classic rock is one of my favorite genres of music. No one ever introduced me to it, and I really can’t recall what song, what band, or what it was that intrigued me to love it so much, but I know it gives me a feeling way different from Hip-Hop or R&B.
The movie Bohemian Rhapsody released November 2, 2018, and it was probably one of the most exciting and moving rock biopics of all time. Rami Malek playing Freddie Mercury was an awesome decision. The director got it all right for me: the casting, the clothes, the music – Bryan Singer really told the story in a way that doesn’t bore you with biography details, so much that I’ve seen the movie twice by myself. While watching this film, the previews presented us with a new biopic to look forward to about legend Elton John.
The movie is called “Rocketman”, named after one of Elton’s hits and it will follow the singer’s life at the Royal Academy of Music to his rise to pop stardom. According to Rolling Stone, the film will touch on his upbringing outside of London, his early days as a musician, the dropping of his birth name, Reginald Dwight, his partnership with Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell), his rise to stardom, his struggles with addiction and the difficulties of being a gay superstar in the Seventies.
I can’t wait to see it when it comes out May 31st, but until then go see Bohemian Rhapsody if you haven’t. Watch the trailer below and another video of Taron Egerton (playing Elton Johnn) singing hit “Tiny Dancer”.
