Breakdancing could join the 2024 Olympic Games

The Olympic games are a chance for athletes from around the world to show off their skills and if the 2024 organizers can agree, the South Bronx sport of New York City -breakdancing, is in.

According to Time Magazine, the 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris and they have proposed breakdancing should be included along with surfing, climbing, and skateboarding, which is set to debut in Tokyo 2020.

Why breakdancing now? The Paris 2024 organizing committee argued that it should be included because it is legendary for its dance battles and also breakdancing is an “urban, universal and popular sport with more than a million BBoys and BGirls” already breakdancing in France.

Before you get excited, the decision isn’t final yet. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has until December 2020 to make a decision, but they seemed like they were into  the idea to add it: “We are pleased to see that Paris 2024’s proposal for new sports to the Olympic programme is very much in line with the reforms of Olympic Agenda 2020, which is striving to make the Olympic programme gender-balanced, more youth-focused and more urban,” an IOC statement read, per The Telegraph.

I don’t know about you, but if this makes the cut -I shall be watching! Shout out to the Paris committee.
