Facebook officially bans white nationalism and white separatism

Motherboard reported on Wednesday that Facebook is changing its policy on white nationalism and white separatism and decided to ban these groups from the platform one day prior. Yes, this means Instagram too.

Facebook posted the statement, titled “Standing Against Hate,” on its website confirming the policy update. In addition to the ban, the update will direct Facebook users searching for content related to white supremacy on its platform to Life After Hate, which is a nonprofit organization that provides support and education to help people leave hate groups and movements.

“The principles that we have on what we remove from the service are: If it’s going to result in real harm, real physical harm, or if you’re attacking individuals, then that content shouldn’t be on the platform,” Mark Zuckerburg said in a past interview with Recode.

This policy comes weeks after a white supremacist shooting was streamed live on its platform. I guess Zuckerburg is changing the dynamic of the internet again. What are your thoughts on this change?
